Write a big first paragraph: Every time you write a blog, include a minimum of 150 word paragraph as the first module. Insert a medium rectangle (336 by 250) adsense ads beside that paragraph. By having this, your visitors have a good chance of seeing the ads (without the need to scroll down) and maximum number of ads beside your main content.

2. Do not inert any images beside the first paragraph: If you want to include an image, insert just below the first paragraph. Do not include any module (Links / RSS / News) beside the first paragraph.

3. Go back and review your blogs: If you do not have a first paragraph with images, or do not have a big first paragraph, then revise them all. Include a good lengthy first paragraph in all your published blogs.

4. Some topics earn more than others: The good topics with adsense are finance, home tips, beauty and fitness tips, product reviews and How-To articles. So, write blogs related to these topics.

5. Photo galleries do not earn much: I have to make a confession here. Photo galleries do not earn much from adsense. They bring more traffic to my blogs and photo galleries do not attract clicks.

6. Text-rich blogs attract clicks: Write more text-rich blogs to get more quality adsense ads. Because, when you have only images or photo galleries, the adsense engine confuse what sort of content that is and include junk ads which earn only few micro cents per click. So, write good article sprinkled with the certain keywords across the blog to tell the adsense engine what your blog is related to.

7. Choose your title wisely: Before you lock up the title of your blog, think for a while. Is the title descriptive enough to attract visitors? Because, even though search engines rank your site based on the keyword, after all, only humans read them. So, having a catchy title helps to attract visitors from the search engine results page. Once you decide the title, search that in a popular search engine and see if you need to modify the keywords.

8. Separate your long blog into different modules: Break your long blog into different text modules. The rough guide is each text module should have a maximum of 250 words. In this way, you are giving more opportunity to insert Google Ads in the middle.

9. Monitor your adsense earnings: Do not believe in all I say. Set up separate channels (you can track upto 180 different blog pages based on their URLs) to monitor which type of pages earn more money for you. Write those kind of blogs more often.

10. Publicize your blog links and RSS to directories: Go and search for the directories that list websites or RSS. Add your blog profile page and RSS link to those directories. In this way, you attract more visitors and search engines will give more weightage to your blog.

11. Search engine traffic matters: The people those come from the search engines are most likely to click on your ads. Because, they are the ones looking for some information or product. You need not do anything to attract search engine traffic.

12. Tags are everything: Add at least 15 tags to your hubs. These are the keywords that describe your blog's content. Add only relevant and good quality keywords.

What Kind of Photos Sell?

Some most-wanted images are from these categories:

* Health and medical field - pictures of nurses, doctors, surgeons, medical equipments
* Business related photos - people conducting business, business environment, equipment, style, design, symbols, attributes ect.
* People in activities - Pictures of people doing something like dancing, working, playing sports, laughing, eating, driving, building, are very popular.
* Controversial issues - general politics, women, gender, sexuality, crime, religion, education, family, war, race, environment, poverty, wealth.
* Religious faith - symbols, activities, locations, actions, traditions, and food.
* Technology photos - lasers, fiber optics, equipment, digital chips, clean rooms,
* Different occupations - Delivery person, florist, dentist, doctor, nurse, construction worker, plumber, electrician, machinist, pilot, photographer, teacher, banker, salesman, receptionist, policeman, judge,
* Objects - everyday or strange objects depicting an idea or symbolic of an activity. Today, I did a bit of research on the net and plant a few pots. Hope I will have sunflower in 4 months.

What is sunflower?

The sunflower (Helianthus annuus) is an annual plant in the family Asteraceae and native to the Americas, with a large flowering head (inflorescence). The stem can grow as high as 3 metres, and the flower head can reach 30 cm in diameter with the "large" seeds.

How to grow?

Getting Start:

It is very important to carefully consider the types of sunflowers you intend to grow and where and how you intend to grow them. I remember our first sunflower crop. We thought of everything and planned a large sunflower garden along our back fence line. Tall varieties in the back, mid height varieties in the middle, and smaller varieties in the front. Everything was perfect.

If you visited our about sunflowers section you learned that the heads of the sunflower tend to follow the predominate direction of the sun. Well, the fence line where we planted our garden is located in the east section of our lot. We live in Southern California so the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. When the taller varieties grew above the fence line the flowers followed the rising sun and we looked at the back of the flowers from our family room window for several weeks.

Needless to say planning is very important. Carefully select your seeds reading all of the information on the seed packs. Pay attention to the height of the plants, and the time to bloom, and the type of flowers. For example, you do not want your back rows to be spent when your front rows are just beginning to bloom.

Consider whether you are planting for cut flowers, or planting to harvest and roast seeds for eating. Maybe you want to plant your sunflowers in pots or create a barrier of sunflowers between you and your neighbors. Seeds for every type of planting are readily available. You just need to have some idea about what you want from your garden.

Seed Germination

Not all sunflower seeds are created equal. Open your package of seeds and lay the seeds out on a table and you will notice that they are all different sizes. One way to ensure even growth and the strongest fastest growing plants is to germinate your seeds before planting. By germinating your seeds before planting you can pick out the seeds that will provide the best chance of success. Typically, the first seeds to germinate will be your strongest best thriving plants.

Soil Considerations

Sunflower plants are like any other plant. The better the soil the more heartier and robust the plant. Our experience shows that sunflowers like a soil that drains well and contains a lot of mulch. About two weeks before planting I mix a bit of steer manure into the soil where I am going to plant.

Sunflowers do well in many different soil conditions, so I would not get too hung up on your soil conditions. If you have plants that are doing well now in an area where you want to plant your sunflowers, then your sunflowers will do just as well.

Sun and Water

The operative word here is sun. Like its name the sunflower needs plenty of direct sun; a minimum of 6hrs a day to grow healthy plants. If you plant sunflowers out of direct sun light they will stretch for the sun. They will become so spindly stretching for the sun eventually they will fall to the ground. We recommend full sun for the better part of the day to grow strong healthy sunflowers.

How to harvest?

Harvest sunflower seeds after the flower begins to die back, and most if not all, of the petals have fallen off. Pull out a seed and open it to see if it is full. Cut off the head, leaving a few inches of stalk. Hang the stalks to dry in a well ventilated area. Do not stack them in a box, as mold can develop during the drying process. As soon as the flowers have dried, extract the seeds by rubbing two flower heads together. They should come off of the flowerhead fairly easily.

Sunflowers are also used as dried flowers in vases and for craft projects. They can be cut just before the flowers die off and dried over a few weeks. Miniature sunflowers make lovely fresh bouquets also. For craft projects, it is important to leave a sufficient amount of stalk.

We enjoy sharing this crop with wildlife. We also enjoy eating the seeds, too. Birds and squirrels will begin their assault before the seeds are completely ripe. You can protect against this annual invasion by covering the entire flower with an old nylon stocking, a cheese cloth bag, or any other covering that allows light and especially air to flow through. Do not use plastic bags, as moisture buildup will rot the flower and heat buildup will scald it. Some people will put a bag below the flower to catch any seeds that fall.

Densha Otoko - The Train Man

This online true story is explained on Wikipedia,

In 2004, an anonymous user posted in a 2channel thread for single men to bemoan their woes. According to his account, he had been sitting next to a young woman on the train when a drunken man entered the car and began bothering the other passengers, most of whom were female. When the drunk began to badger a particular woman, the poster took the risk of telling the man to stop bothering the passengers. The two struggled for a short time while the other passengers used this distraction to summon the conductor, who took control of the situation.

Never having done such a thing in his life, the poster was amazed to find the woman thanking him deeply for saving her from harassment. The young woman requested his address, telling him that she wanted to express her appreciation for his act, before they parted ways. The poster, upon returning home, shared his experience with other posters in the thread and was eventually nicknamed "Densha Otoko" (Train_Man).

A few days later, Train_Man received a package from the woman: an expensive set of cups and saucers made by Hermès. Flabbergasted, the man turned to the 2channelers for advice; he was soon convinced that the tea set was too expensive to be a mere thank-you gift. Following the advice and suggestions of the other posters, Train_Man eventually contacted the woman.

As Train_Man had never been on a date before, he consistently posted updates on his situation, asking for advice on everything from restaurant choices to what clothing to wear. After an enjoyable first date, they began meeting regularly. Following the 2channelers' collective advice, he got a haircut, updated his wardrobe, and began to emerge from his shell. After several dates, his demeanor had changed for the better and this culminated a few months later in his confessing his love for her. She reciprocated, and when the 2channelers were informed, there was a mass celebration; posts began flowing in congratulating the new couple, and extravagant Shift JIS art pictures were posted. Because 2ch has an enormous impact on net culture in Japan, this story quickly spread throughout the media.

The complete original threads can be found here.

The English translated version can be found in the following:

Mission 1

Mission 2

Mission 3

Mission 4

Mission 5

Mission 6

Congratulation

A fresh take on the browser - Google Chrome

Google Statement on "Why they built a browser":

At Google, we spend much of our time working inside a browser. We search, chat, email and collaborate in a browser. And like all of you, in our spare time, we shop, bank, read news and keep in touch with friends - all using a browser. People are spending an increasing amount of time online, and they're doing things never imagined when the web first appeared about 15 years ago.

Since we spend so much time online, we began seriously thinking about what kind of browser could exist if you started from scratch and built on the best elements out there. We realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser. What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications, and that's what we set out to build.

So today we're releasing the beta version of a new open source browser: Google Chrome.

On the surface, we designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple. To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff - the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go.

Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today's complex web applications much better . By keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren't even possible in today's browsers.

This is just the beginning - Google Chrome is far from done. We've released this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We're hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and we'll continue to make it even faster and more robust.

We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're committed to continuing on their path. We've used components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others - and in that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.

The web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option, and we hope it contributes to making the web even better.

But enough from us. The best test of Google Chrome is to try it yourself.

Google Chrome Features:

"Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier."

See all new features introduced here.

Cannot wait for it. [whatis.com]

The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called "Chains." In 1967, American sociologist Stanley Milgram devised a new way to test the theory, which he called "the small-world problem." He randomly selected people in the mid-West to send packages to a stranger located in Massachusetts. The senders knew the recipient's name, occupation, and general location. They were instructed to send the package to a person they knew on a first-name basis who they thought was most likely, out of all their friends, to know the target personally. That person would do the same, and so on, until the package was personally delivered to its target recipient. Although the participants expected the chain to include at least a hundred intermediaries, it only took (on average) between five and seven intermediaries to get each package delivered. Milgram's findings were published in Psychology Today and inspired the phrase "six degrees of separation." [whatis.com]

In 1994 students at Pennsylvania's Albright College invented the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, in which the challenge was to connect every film actor to Bacon in six cast lists or fewer. Bacon thought the joke would die out, but when it didn't he launched a website, sixdegrees.org, bringing together people interested in helping good causes. He said: 'I thought it was definitely going to go the way of eight-track cassettes and pet rocks. But it's a concept that has sort of hung around in the zeitgeist.'[guardian.co.uk]

In 2001, Duncan Watts, a professor at Columbia University, continued his own earlier research into the phenomenon and recreated Milgram's experiment on the Internet. Watts used an e-mail message as the "package" that needed to be delivered, and surprisingly, after reviewing the data collected by 48,000 senders and 19 targets (in 157 countries), Watts found that the average number of intermediaries was indeed, six. Watts' research, and the advent of the computer age, has opened up new areas of inquiry related to six degrees of separation in diverse areas of network theory such as as power grid analysis, disease transmission, graph theory, corporate communication, and computer circuitry. [whatis.com]

In 2007, a research paper from, titled "Worldwide Buzz: Planetary-Scale Views on an Instant-Messaging Network (PDF)," Eric Horvitz of Microsoft Research and Jure Leskovec of Carnegie Mellon University analyzed 30 billion conversations among 240 million people using Microsoft Instant Messenger in June 2006. It turned out that the average path length, or degree of separation, among the anonymized users probed was 6.6. [cnet] Note: There is a more in-depth explanation of the phenomenon from an updated version of the research (PDF) posted on arXiv.org

This is indeed a interesting theory. In a world of 6.7 billion people, it does seem hard to believe. The theory of six degrees of separation contends that, because we are all linked by chains of acquaintance, you are just six introductions away from any other person on the planet! Isn't this so cool!

Today, September 2008, a study from French mobile carrier O2 has found that strangers are more connected to each other than they ever have been. According to the study, the average person is now connected by just three degrees within a shared “interest” or social group instead of six. In fact, it found that people are usually a part of three main networks: family, friendship, and work. O2 asked adults across three different age groups — 18-25, 35-45, 55+ — to make contact with random strangers from areas all across the globe using only personal connections. By linking their shared interests, the participants were able to connect to that person in three person-to-person links. With today’s world of social networking, links between strangers are closer than in Milgram’s day. [Techcrunch]

According to Jeff Rodrigues, a social networking specialist that carried out the study, 97 percent of the participants said they felt more connected to people today than they ever have in the past and for older respondents, email and mobile phones were the key factors in reducing the degrees of separation. But for those in the younger generation, Facebook was the main factor. Text messaging was also mentioned as an important component in reducing degrees of separation. “What the study has brought to light is that the way we now interact means it’s never been easier to make connections and build networks of contacts,” Rodrigues said in an interview. [Techcrunch]

It should be noted that the research is not the epitome of a real scientific study—O2 paid for it, after all. And anyone who has a LinkedIn account knows that it is still easy to find plenty of people who are more than three degrees away from you. But the study does underscore something we all know:more so than ever before, everyone is connected (even if it is only tangentially). scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Aussie'/>
You know you're Australian if...

Got this email today from one of my friends today.

You know the meaning of the word 'girt'.

You believe that stubbies can be either drunk or worn.

You think it's normal to have a leader called Kevin.

You waddle when you walk due to the 53 expired petrol discount vouchers stuffed in your wallet or purse.

You've made a bong out of your garden hose rather than use it for something illegal such as watering the garden.

You believe it is appropriate to put a rubber in your son's pencil case when he first attends school.

When you hear that an American 'roots for his team' you wonder how often and with whom.

You understand that the phrase 'a group of women wearing black thongs' refers to footwear and may be less alluring than it sounds.

You pronounce Melbourne as 'Mel-bin'.

You pronounce Penrith as 'Pen-riff'.

You believe the 'l' in the word 'Australia' is optional.

You can translate: 'Dazza and Shazza played Acca Dacca on the way to Maccas.'

You believe it makes perfect sense for a nation to decorate its highways with large fibreglass bananas, prawns and sheep.

You call your best friend 'a total bastard' but someone you really, truly despise is just 'a bit of a bastard'.

You think 'Woolloomooloo' is a perfectly reasonable name for a place.

You're secretly proud of our killer wildlife.

You believe it makes sense for a country to have a $1 coin that's twice as big as its $2 coin.

You understand that 'Wagga Wagga' can be abbreviated to 'Wagga' but 'Woy Woy' can't be called 'Woy'.

You believe that cooked-down axlegrease makes a good breakfast spread.

You believe all famous Kiwis are actually Australian, until they stuff up, at which point they again become Kiwis.

Hamburger. Beetroot. Of course.

You know that certain words must, by law, be shouted out during any rendition of the Angels' song Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again.

You believe, as an article of faith, that the confectionary known as the Wagon Wheel has become smaller with every passing year.

You still don't get why the 'Labor' in 'Australian Labor Party' is not spelt with a 'u'.

You wear ugh boots outside the house.

You believe, as an article of faith, that every important discovery in the world was made by an Australian but then sold off to the Yanks for a pittance.

You believe that the more you shorten someone's name the more you like them.

Whatever your linguistic skills, you find yourself able to order takeaway fluently in every Asian language.

You understand that 'excuse me' can sound rude, while 'scuse me' is always polite.

You know what it's like to swallow a fly, on occasion via your nose.

You understand that 'you' has a plural and that it's 'youse'.

You know it's not summer until the steering wheel is too hot to handle.

Your biggest family argument over the summer concerned the rules for beach cricket.

You shake your head in horror when companies try to market what they call 'Anzac cookies'.

You still think of Kylie as 'that girl off Neighbours'.

When returning home from overseas, you expect to be brutally strip-searched by Customs - just in case you're trying to sneak in fruit.

You believe the phrase 'smart casual' refers to a pair of black tracky-daks, suitably laundered.

You understand that all train timetables are works of fiction.

When working on a bar, you understand male customers will feel the need to offer an excuse whenever they order low-alcohol beer.

You get choked up with emotion by the first verse of the national anthem and then have trouble remembering the second.

You find yourself ignorant of nearly all the facts deemed essential in the government's new test for migrants.

You know, whatever the tourist books say, that no one says 'cobber'.

And you will immediately forward this list to other Australians, here and overseas, realising that only they will understand.

Any explanations are welcomed.
